Things to Learn

March 04, 2005 at 3:30pm
I've decided to make a list of the three most important things I want learn professionally in the next few months.
Here they are:
  1. Ruby on Rails: Everyone seems to be all-a-twitter with this framework. I started messing around with this last weekend and am hooked. At this point it's a little like listening to an Italian opera — I can tell everyone's saying beautiful things, I just haven't a clue what any of it means.
  2. Ajax: Within the last few months I've written a few web apps based on submitting form information but not forcing a page refresh, but now there are at least two frameworks to do it in so as to not require cobbling something together each time. The question is, which one should I pick to figure out?
  3. Flash: We've all heard “Flash is evil,” but everyone knows Flash was just taking the fall for some really really poor interaction designers' work. Things are finally changing — Flickr makes a fantastic case for the strategic implementation of Flash-as-mini-app, and The Open Championship is just plain beautiful in its subtle application of the stuff. I'd like to do both.
So there you have it. Those are the three things I've decided I really want to learn in the near future.
    What about you?
