GeekwellSay hello to Geekwell.

Geekwell lets you keep track of all your books, movies and music online, and recommends other books, movies and music based on what people who like the same sorts of things as you also like. Think something along the lines of “”http://customersupport.tivo.com/knowbase/root/public/tv1037.htm">TiVo Suggestions," but for your stuff instead of your shows. Geekwell works “across media” too — so you can get music recommendations based on the books you like, or movie picks based on your music.

And it's free.

Geekwell was born out of a sort of “need” I have to keep my stuff organized. I like having a spot online to see which books I've read — or which movies I've got on DVD. I really like being able to talk about my favorite things with other interested people. Mix that all in with a passion for developing web applications and I'm sure you see where this is going.

From a technical perspective, Geekwell builds on the power of Amazon's massive database of products to give you the power to build and organize a collection of all the great books, movies and music that you own. So signing up for an account, gives you the ability to match your stuff against the entire inventory of world's largest online retailers.

I'm not doing a long beta with Geekwell's launch. We're live today and anyone who'd like to sign-up can do just that and receive a full-featured, free account. There will be bugs, and if you let me know I'll squash them as quickly as possible.

Now, I know that because I made the choice to “go live” without a prolonged period of testing, the system is pretty empty. This means the recommendations aren't going to be as good as they will be in the near future. I'm sorry about that, but I'd really like to point out that the best way to improve the site is to get more and more people involved.

So join up!

Tell your friends!

Store, tag and discuss your books, movies and music — help build Geekwell into a thriving community!
