Flash! (Dun dun dun dun) Ah-ha...

January 24, 2006 at 3:40am

On a number of occasions lately, I've wanted to add graphs to a few of the apps I've been working on. The Ruby (and Ruby on Rails) solutions are sort of limiting: Gruff doesn't do “everything” I want to do, and MR Plot is j-u-s-t-p-l-a-i-n-s-l-o-w. Besides these would be Ruby-only solutions and I like to be a generalist.

So I dusted off my old ActionScript books, downloaded a trial of Flash 8 and started hacking.

I'm really impressed — ActionScript has come a long way since the days of Flash 5. It's so much fun to program visuals.
